چکیده مقاله:

Aim: Burn scars represent a major challenge in clinical and aesthetic dermatology. In addition to their significant morbidity, the side effects and lengthy courses of many therapeutic modalities for the treatment of burn scars place an additional burden on the patients. Fractional Carbon Dioxide (C۰۲) Laser is one of the treatment options used to removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method to help reduce scarring. Method: This review study was conducted by reviewing and summarizing interventional articles from authoritative scientific sites PubMed, Cochrane, PMC and Elsevier with key words of CO۲ laser, burn wound and burn scar during ۲۰۱۵ to ۲۰۱۹. Results / Discussion: CO۲ laser energy is well absorbed in water. As skin contains a very high water percentage, this makes the CO۲ laser ideal for precise, safe ablation with good haemostasis. In addition to its efficacy in ablating benign raised lesions, the CO۲ laser has been reported to be effective in the field of aesthetic dermatology in the revision of acne scars as well as in photo rejuvenation. The commonest site of scarring treated was the face followed by hands. Response to treatment was rated as excellent in patients. Majority of the patients were highly satisfied with the treatment offered. No long-term adverse effects were noted in any patient. Conclusion: Although many clinical studies have reported Fractional carbon dioxide laser use is an effective and safe method for treating burn scars with a significant change in the opinion of the patients about their scar appearance but for greatest efficacy, the selection of laser delivery parameters and co-treatments must account for variability in scar properties, including thickness.
