Application of Artificial Intelligence in Wound Care: A Systematic Review

Wound healing is a complex process and wound care is one of the major concerns in the current medical field as management of both acute and chronic wounds is challenging and burden to healthcare. Inappropriate management leads to hard-to-heal wounds and other life-threatening outcomes. Comprehensive assessment and regular documentation are integral components of good management to promote complete and timely healing wounds and prevent complications through helping wound-specialists to develop the best treatment strategy. Furthermore, considering shortage of well-trained wound-specialists in primary and rural healthcare settings, vast majority of patients do not have access to specialized wound care and updated guidelines systems. Recently, innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), defined as the incorporation of human intelligence into machines, have revolutionized wound care, providing more effective solutions including remote diagnosis and treatment system and tailored education for healthcare professionals. Therefore, this study purposed to analyze AI using effectiveness in wound care extensively through literature.
