چکیده مقاله:
Wound healing has always been a matter of concern in the medical community. Whether the wound is acute or chronic, proper care can reduce the risk of infection and further complications, accelerate the healing process, and alleviate the patient’s discomfort. A necessity in most wound treatments is an efficient dressing capable of providing a suitable environment for healing. The said environment requires adequate moisture, controlled pH, and proper gas exchange. It should be bacteria-free, as well, to keep away infection. Over the years, various dressings have been devised to cater to these requirements. Among the recent trends in wound healing methods, modern dressings are of notice, which come in several forms and materials. A promising type of such dressing is bioelectric dressing, which benefits the wound through electrical stimulation (ES). Numerous studies have indicated that exogenous and endogenous electrical fields aid the processes of cell proliferation and migration, leading to re-epithelization, which is a significant stage of wound healing. In this review, we gathered the literature surrounding the aspects of bioelectric dressings involved in real-time wound monitoring, targeted therapy delivery, tissue regeneration stimulation, and personalized treatment. Bioelectronic wound dressings have the potential to revolutionize the way we treat wounds by providing real-time feedback on wound healing progress, allowing for targeted and personalized treatment. We hope to provide an overview that could aid researchers in delving deeper into creating bioelectronic devices that can monitor wound healing progress, stimulate tissue regeneration, and deliver therapeutic agents. The concept of bioelectronic wound dressings is still in its early stages but has the potential to lead to significant breakthroughs in wound healing and tissue regeneration.
