چکیده مقاله:

The utilization of seashell powders in wound dressing formulations presents a novel approach to enhancing wound healing processes. This study investigates the potential of seashell-derived materials, particularly focusing on their biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, and ability to promote tissue regeneration. Seashell powders are rich in calcium carbonate and chitin. The calcium carbonate structure of seashell powders changed to calcium oxide (CaO) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)۲) at ۹۰۰˚C using a calcination process. The results of the Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry data, showed a C–O stretching peak indicative of a calcite structure. Additionally, the presence of Ca=O and O–H stretching peaks suggested the formation of CaO and Ca(OH)۲ structures. The antibacterial evaluations demonstrated that the calcined seashell powders significantly inhibited bacterial growth and reduced inflammation. The findings suggest that seashell powders can be effectively utilized in wound care applications, offering a sustainable and biocompatible alternative to synthetic materials. This research highlights the potential of marine-derived biomaterials in advancing wound management technologies through their antibacterial activity. These powders can also be incorporated into various polymeric matrices, including chitosan and alginate hydrogels, to develop composite wound dressings.
