PBM in Radiation Therapy: Updates and Challenges

In recent years, photobiomodulation, also known as low-level laser therapy (regardless of whether it is performed using laser light sources or LED lamps), has gained significant popularity in managing, preventing, and alleviating complications associated with cancer treatment. At the same time, concerns have been raised about the safety of using this therapeutic modality in areas where cancer cells are present, with potential risks of increased recurrence or secondary cancer. In this presentation, alongside sharing our laboratory study experience - where we investigated the benefits and drawbacks of combining electron radiation therapy with low-level laser therapy on oral SCC cell cultures - we will provide a comprehensive review of the current knowledge from credible sources regarding the safety of photobiomodulation in cancer care.
