چکیده :

English literature has evolved over centuries, reflecting the dynamic changes in culture, politics, philosophy, and social norms across the English-speaking world. From the heroic tales of the Anglo-Saxon period to the innovative works of the Renaissance, the rise of the novel in the 18th century, the emotional depth of Romanticism, the industrial critiques of Victorian literature, and the fragmented narratives of Modernism, English literature has mirrored and influenced societal shifts. This paper traces the major movements and periods of English literature, highlighting key figures such as Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, Jonathan Swift, Mary Shelley, Charles Dickens, and T.S. Eliot, among others. The article also discusses the evolving role of literature as a medium for social commentary, identity formation, and the exploration of human experience. By examining the development of English literature in historical context, this paper offers a comprehensive view of its rich tradition and its continued relevance in the contemporary world.
