Identification of Hydrocarbon Accumulation Zones on Ancient Platforms in the Northern Part of Eurasian Lithospheric Plate

The processes of oil and gas formation on ancient platforms have their own peculiarities. This is due to the primary conditions of sediment formation, specific geological evolution leading to multidirectional vertical and horizontal movements, complex relationship between the strata within which hydrocarbons are formed and sediments where they could accumulate. The paper considers the principal models of hydrocarbon formation within the two ancient platforms spread over the territory of the Russian Federation, obtained on the basis of generalization of data on the structure of the sedimentary cover of the East European and Siberian platforms, which are part of the Eurasian lithospheric plate. Within the designated platforms there are three main fundamentally different zones of hydrocarbon accumulation, occupying essentially different tectonic positions: mobile, including marginal systems and rift structures (aulacogenic) and stable, mainly developed in the central part of the platforms, including carbonate structural-formation complexes at the base in the lower part of the cover, and predominantly terrigenous in the upper part. The most promising for oil and gas are the mobile areas of marginal systems and inverted aulacogens formed in place of riftogenic structures, the formation of which began in the Upper Proterozoic and ended in the Paleozoic time. The most promising oil and gas accumulation areas of the East European and Siberian platforms are proposed for further study.
