Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun in the Light of Ecofeminism

This article is in search of the traces of ecofeminism in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun and in this way examines the ecofeminist theories and the correlation it makes between nature and womanhood or femininity. Nature has always been closer to women than any other gender for the elements in which they both resemble. In this play written by Hansberry, the characters of women are deeply connected to the nature and its symbols. Also, the story of the play has some special treatments towards environment and the importance of nature. The aim of this article is to show this connection and give a nod to the writer for her work as well as giving an understanding about the ecofeminist way of thought and philosophy.
