چکیده مقاله:

Aortic thromboembolism (AT) is uncommon in dogs, and patients usually have underlying diseases such as cardiac disease, neoplasia, and protein-losing glomerulonephropathy. Clinical Signs include weakness, cold extremities, acute onset of LMN pelvic limb paralysis or paresis, and rigid extension of the legs. Danny, a ۱۷-year-old male neutered mixed-terrier, presented to the Small Animal Hospital Of Tehran University (FVM-UT) with dysuria, constipation, and lateral recumbency. Phenobarbital was used in the treatment of seizures. Blood work showed an increase in extreme ALP and an inflammatory condition. Thoracic and abdominal cavity radiography and AUS showed AT in caudal abdominal aorta cranial to aortic trifurcation, which was partially obstructive, cardiogenic pulmonary oedema, left-sided cardiomegaly (LA enlargement) and aortic dilation, hepatomegaly, pancreatitis, Bilateral chronic nephropathy with multiple UB calculi, GB dilation with cholelithiasis. Afterwards, Echocardiography revealed moderate regurgitation of the TV and MV, mitral valve endocarditis, prolapse and severe regurgitation of AV, LA and AO dilation, and the thickening of the LV wall. The case was returned to the internist, and treatment consisted of Heparin sodium ۵۰۰۰u/۱ml amp, Furosemide ۴۰mg tab, Pimobendan ۵mg tab, and Aspirin ۸۰mg tab for one month. It is more common in cats to develop AT. AT in dogs has a survival rate of ۵۰% to ۶۰%. Dogs with chronic clinical signs have a better prognosis. AT in dogs does not have an optimal treatment. However, previous studies showed improvement after using antiplatelets and anticoagulants.
