Religious Tolerance and Dialogue Ethics

Religious dialogue, as well as unity, tolerance, and coexistence between religions, have different foundations and principles, among which are ethical foundations, and without an ethical foundation, the dialogue between religions and the peace of peaceful religious coexistence is not possible. Many moral foundations can be listed for religious dialogue, religious tolerance is one of them. In today's world, tolerance and patience are often considered concepts that are a product of the Western world and modernity, and other cultures, especially Islam, are not familiar with such concepts, while scientific and historical researches show how much this idea is upside down; Islam is a religion that throughout history has shown the best and highest form of tolerance, peace, and tolerance of opposing opinions and ideas, and hundreds of years before Europeans spoke of tolerance, Muslims have adhered to it in Islamic culture. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) fourteen centuries ago in a world where the concept of religious tolerance and coexistence was completely unknown to mankind, recognized it with complete openness and invited the Muslim nation to it. The manner and behavior of the Holy Prophet in conversations and his behavior toward the followers of other religions is the best model at any time (including the present era). Because according to the interpretation of the Holy Quran, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is a model and example of good deeds. Therefore, the present research aims to analyze and explain religious tolerance and tolerance in the tradition and life of His Holiness with a descriptive-analytical approach using the library-documentary method and discuss and examine its foundations.
