We introduce a novel optical hydrogen sulfide (H ۲S) gas sensor based on a two-dimensional Ln-slot photonic crystal (PhC) cavity. A ۵ nm thick copper oxide (CuO) film is coated on the inner walls of the slot. As the concentration of H ۲S gas changes, the refractive index of CuO also varies, leading to a change in the local refractive index of the cavity. This design enhances the wavelength shift in the output transmittance spectrum, thereby increasing the sensitivity of the sensor. We demonstrate that the proposed sensor achieves ultra-high sensitivity of up to ۸.۴۴ × ۱۰ ⁷ nm/RIU and a low detection limit of ۵.۲۲ × ۱۰ ⁻¹⁰ RIU.
