Studying the correlation between age and serum prolactin concentration in miscarriage after IVF transfer

Miscarriage and infertility are among the most common reproductive disorders and hormonal changes are effective in the pregnancy process. In the present study, the correlation between age, as one of the factors affecting pregnancy along with the serum concentration level of prolactin hormone was investigated in two groups of women. Twenty women who had more than two unsuccessful IVF (case group) and twenty women with successful IVF (control group) were investigated in terms of serum prolactin concentration and age. After separating the serum from the blood, the serum prolactin hormone level was measured by ELISA using a commercial kit. The selected women were in the age range of ۲۰ to ۴۰ years and there was no significant difference in age. The serum prolactin concentration in the case group was evaluated as ۱۵.۷۰±۱.۳۳ and the control group as ۵۹.۴۹±۲۱.۳۶ (p=۰.۰۲۸). A negative correlation was observed between serum prolactin level and miscarriage (p=۰.۰۰۵, Correlation Coefficient: -۰.۴۳۱). There was no correlation between age and miscarriage in our study samples, but a statistically significant difference was observed between prolactin concentration and miscarriage. This hormone seems to play an important role in IVF failure.
