Prediction of obsessive -compulsive syndrome based on insecure adult attachment styles

Aims: The aim of the present study was to predict obsessive-compulsive syndrome based on insecure adult attachment (avoidant and anxious attachment) in married students. Method: This was a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population included married students of Semnan University in ۲۰۲۴, of which ۴۰۰ people were selected through convenience sampling. The instruments used in this study included the short form of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Questionnaire and the Experience in Close Relationships Questionnaire. Pearson correlation test and stepwise regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that obsessive-compulsive syndrome had a positive and significant correlation with insecure adult attachment. The regression results also indicated that avoidant and anxious attachments explained ۵۸ percent of the variance of obsessive-compulsive syndrome. Conclusion: According to the results obtained, insecure adult attachment plays an important role in predicting obsessive-compulsive syndrome. Avoidant and anxious attachments can cause the occurrence and persistence of obsessive-compulsive syndrome in individuals. Therefore, the use of attachment-based therapeutic approaches can contribute to reducing the occurrence and severity of obsessive-compulsive syndrome in individuals.
