Examine the association of psychological capital with tendency to use opioid drugs in adolescents

Aim: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between psychological capital with tendency to use opioid drugs in adolescents. Method: This was a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population included all high school students in Shahrood in the academic year ۲۰۲۴-۲۰۲۵, from which ۳۲۰ people were selected using multi-stage cluster sampling. In this study, the addiction aptitude questionnaire and the psychological capital questionnaire were used. Pearson correlation test was used to analyze the data. Findings: The results showed that the components of positive psychological capital, including hope, resilience, self-efficacy, and optimism, had a negative and significant correlation with the tendency to use opioid drugs in adolescents. Conclusion: Therefore, positive psychological capital (hope, resilience, self-efficacy, and optimism) played an important role in explaining the tendency to use opioid drugs in adolescents; in general, the findings of the study showed that the components of positive psychological capital can reduce the tendency to use opioid drugs in adolescents. As a result, designing interventions based on improving these characteristics is suggested as a basis for reducing the tendency to use opioid drugs in this group of individuals.
