چکیده مقاله:
The aim of the research is to measure the satisfaction of Iraqi students with their studies of English as a foreign language. The study population and sample consisted of ۵۰ students who were randomly selected from among the students of the College of Education at the University of Baghdad. The researcher used a questionnaire containing ۲۰ questions that were carefully designed to measure students' desire, motivation, and satisfaction with their English language study program. The students' answers were analyzed, and the researcher concluded that most students learn English not out of compulsion but out of their own will despite the fact that English is not an easy language to learn. The students' desire to learn English makes the teacher's work easier and more enjoyable as he can focus more on the methods and techniques of teaching English as a foreign language. It was also revealed that showing respect for students' culture and mother tongue is a very influential factor in helping them adapt to English culture and language. Thus, rather than assimilation, acculturation is the politically correct path for educators to follow as they attempt to teach the basics of English language, culture, and literature. In addition, the positive impressions of Iraqi students about English culture increase their enthusiasm and curiosity about learning English. In other words, if teachers want to teach English well, the first thing they should teach is English culture due to the fact that without knowledge of the culture of the community one cannot fully understand the foreign language and its basics.
