Abstract This article is primarily aimed at introducing and analyzing the fundamental role of adobe (mud brick) in ancient architecture, with a particular focus on its function in reinforcing and stabilizing structures. As one of the oldest known building materials, adobe has been extensively used in various regions around the world, particularly in arid and semi-arid climates. Despite its historical significance and ecological advantages, adobe is highly vulnerable to natural deterioration, environmental changes, and human-induced damage. The preservation of such structures poses unique challenges, requiring a nuanced understanding of both traditional construction techniques and contemporary conservation methods. To address these concerns, the research team investigates innovative strategies for the restoration, maintenance, and protection of adobe buildings. The article identifies key factors contributing to the degradation of these structures and proposes context-sensitive treatments aimed at enhancing their durability. These approaches are informed by interdisciplinary studies combining material science, architecture, and heritage conservation. Two in-depth case studies are presented to illustrate the practical application of these preservation techniques. These examples serve to demonstrate the critical importance of reinforcement and adaptive maintenance in extending the life of adobe architecture. By examining these real-world scenarios, the article provides valuable insights into how targeted interventions can minimize structural loss and preserve cultural heritage. Ultimately, this comprehensive analysis not only sheds light on the fragility and resilience of adobe buildings but also empowers architects, conservators, and policy makers to make informed decisions regarding their conservation. The study aims to contribute to a broader dialogue about sustainable architectural practices and the safeguarding of vernacular heritage in the face of modern challenges.
