چکیده مقاله:

The increasing use of mobile apps has significantly boosted energy consumption due to their high resource demands. Although mobile cloud computing aims to provide these resources, the delay in data transmission remains a challenge for apps requiring quick responses. To overcome this, edge computing has been introduced as a new approach, offering substantial processing power and storage with reduced latency. Mobile edge computing (MEC) systems, utilizing ۵G technology, can process data requests locally at the network's edge, closer to the mobile devices generating the data. Transferring computations from cloud data centers to these edge servers is crucial for MEC systems to minimize delays, enhance performance, and improve energy efficiency. However, the considerable energy consumed by these edge servers poses a challenge for providers seeking to achieve energy-efficient mobile edge computing. This paper presents a comprehensive review of existing research on various energy-efficient methods for offloading computations in mobile edge computing systems. The main contributions of this paper include providing a structured overview of offloading techniques in MEC systems with an emphasis on energy efficiency identified in the literature, and investigating potential future directions for improving energy efficiency in offloading approaches.
