The present study explores the effect of feedback provision by teacher and by AI-based grammar checker (Grammarly) on Iranian EFL English writing accuracy over time through a pre-test and post-test. In this way, the first aim of this study is considering that how much the grammar correction from the grammar checker is valid to detect all kinds of grammatical errors. Then it attempts to compare the grammar checker with human raters. Third it wants to find out if using an AI-based grammar checker led to improve the EFL learners’ writing accuracy However there are some questions as secondary purposes such as the impact of gender and level of proficiency on the result which were answered by doing the research. In this study participants were selected based on a proficiency test. In order to determine the initial writing ability of the participants before the intervention of the treatment, a ۳۰ minutes essay writing task as a pre-test was administered. The CG took the test in the form of paper and pencil and then teacher highlighted their mistakes. On the contrary the EG, could select the correct answered through Grammarly. Then to measure their writing ability after the treatment, another ۳۰ minutes writing task was conducted as a post-test. After one or two weeks the test was repeated to ensure whether the feedbacks by Grammarly and the teacher caused to learn the correct form of grammar or not. According to the results obtained from qualitative and quantitative questions, it was shown that the EG had better performances to the CG. As the pedagogical implications, it should be noted that learners should adopt the innovative technologies and should accept the fact that web-based instructional software such as Grammarly will take the place of traditional instructions also instructors should be aware of the fact that language skills integrated with web-based instructional software may serve as influential teaching material to help them in assisting learners to reach their full potential in language skill.
