Enhancing English Writing Skills through Micro-Writing on Social Media: A Study of Iranian University Students

چکیده :

The present study examines the effect of micro-writing on social media on enhancing Iranian students’ English writing skills. Given the increasing use of social platforms, micro-writing as an emerging activity in language learning can play a positive role in improving writing skills. The research suggests that micro-writing tasks, given the short text (150-300 characters), not only allow students to express their ideas quickly, but also help to enhance writing fluency and grammatical accuracy. Compared to traditional writing tasks that require more time and accuracy, micro-writing increases learner motivation and engagement. Learners may be more willing to express their thoughts due to the immediate and interactive nature of social media, which in turn can accelerate the improvement of writing skills. In addition, microwriting gives learners the opportunity to become familiar with how language is used in informal contexts while maintaining grammatical accuracy. The results of this study can be used as a suggestion for educational programs in universities to use the potential of microwriting on social media to promote language learning. Overall, microwriting can be considered as an effective tool to strengthen writing skills and increase learner engagement in the English language learning process.
