چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Chemotherapy, as a common treatment method in all types of cancers, is associated with various physical and psychological side effects. Nausea and vomiting are one of the most common side effects of chemotherapy. Today, to control this complication in patients, complementary medicine is used in addition to the usual treatments. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of music therapy on nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. Search Strategy: In this review, the articles that were published from ۲۰۱۳ to ۲۰۲۳ in Magiran, SID, PubMed, Iran medex, Science Direct and Google Scholar search engine with the keywords cancer, chemotherapy, nausea, vomiting, and music therapy were analyzed. Studies including short reports, editor's report and conference reports were excluded due to the inability to answer the research question. The studies were reviewed in two stages. In the first stage, the title and abstract were examined, and in the second stage, the entire article was examined, and finally ۱۲ articles were included in the study. Results: All ۱۲ reviewed articles were of intervention type. Most of the conducted studies confirmed the effect of music therapy on reducing the intensity and frequency of nausea, especially in the acute phase; While the results of studies related to the effectiveness of this intervention on vomiting were contradictory. Conclusion and Discussion: Considering the conflicting results of the studies on the effects of music therapy on nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, conducting more extensive and diverse researches with a stronger working method (clinical trial considering the placebo group, high sample size, random allocation, etc.) is suggested.
