چکیده مقاله:
When the circadian rhythm of sleep is disturbed, the body will secrete more ghrelin. This hormone is responsible for increasing appetite in people and can cause overeating and eventually weight gain. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between growth indices of ۳- to ۶-year-old children with their sleep habits. The present study was a descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional study that was conducted in ۱۴۰۰. The statistical population included all children aged ۳ to ۶ years (preschool) in Dezful. ۲۵۰ children from ۶ comprehensive health centers in Dezful were randomly selected and included in the study. Before the start of the study, the parents of the child were discussed about the objectives of the study and an informed consent form was received from the parents who agreed to participate in the study. Information about the variables under study was collected by the researcher using a checklist and the standard Owens children's sleep habits questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version ۲۴ at a significance level of ۰.۰۵. Results showed that in girls and boys aged ۵ and ۶ years, there was a direct and significant relationship between sleep habits and child weight (P < ۰.۰۵). Children in these two age groups had abnormal body mass index with decreased sleep quality. In children of all ages and in both sexes, there was no significant relationship between sleep habits and height, sleep habits and headaches (P > ۰.۰۵). Based on the results, it is necessary to correct children's sleep habits and mention sleep as a habit affecting weight gain at older ages. It is also suggested that a long-term study of children up to a young age in terms of these variables to be followed.
