Multi-Level Inverters (MLIs) have become indispensable in modern power systems, particularly in addressing the growing need for efficient power transmission and the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. This paper provides an in-depth review of the latest advancements in MLI technology, shedding light on recently initiated projects and ongoing efforts across the globe. The study's primary goal is to deliver a comprehensive comparative analysis of multi-level inverter projects worldwide, focusing on their scale, diverse applications, innovative features, and the challenges they encounter. Furthermore, the paper examines and contrasts various multi-level inverter structures to highlight their unique advantages and limitations. By offering a detailed exploration of the latest developments and emerging trends, this work aims to serve as a vital resource for researchers, engineers, and policymakers in the energy sector, helping them better understand the transformative impact of MLIs on the rapidly evolving landscape of power converters.
