چکیده مقاله:
Remote object positioning is vital for tracking and identifying the position of items. This technology has a wide range of applications across various fields that help to improve efficiency, enhance security, and elevate the overall user experience. This article first delves into geopositioning. It examines the principles and functions of the Global Positioning System (GPS) and its essential components. Additionally, it explores the concept of signals of opportunity, particularly emphasizing cellular signals as a promising alternative to conventional GPS. Moreover, it discusses several localization techniques based on cellular networks and their potential advantages. This study examines remote object tracking from a new perspective as a combination of four key technologies. We explore two operational states: one where a remote device directly transmits its real-time location to a cloud server, and another where a helper device uses local wireless communication to relay the device's ID and location to the cloud. We introduce Apple AirTag and Samsung SmartTag as modern examples of helper devices for personal item tracking. This review also offers future research directions on the current status of remote position tracking.
