Circular Economy and Sustainable Financing in Urban Waste Management

Urban waste management is one of the critical challenges in modern cities due to population growth, increased waste production, and limited resources, which necessitate the improvement of waste management methods. In this context, the concept of the circular economy has been introduced as a sustainable model to reduce waste, promote recycling, and make better use of urban resources. This paper examines sustainable financing for urban waste management and, by combining global experiences with domestic examples in Iran, analyzes innovative financing methods in this field, such as private sector investment, environmental taxes, and waste-to-energy production. Additionally, the challenges and opportunities faced by Iranian municipalities in adopting global models for waste management and recycling finance are discussed. Finally, recommendations are provided to improve the financial system and attract investment for sustainable waste management projects in Iran.
