چکیده مقاله:
Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant advances in the medical field, especially dentistry, in recent years. One of the most widely used research areas in this field is the automated interpretation of dental images. Since the ۱۹۵۰s, X-ray and near-infrared imaging systems have helped dentists identify dental diseases. However, the manual process of diagnosing dental diseases, especially when performed by inexperienced dentists, is tedious and error-prone. Therefore, researchers have used advanced computer vision techniques and machine learning and deep learning models to diagnose dental diseases using X-ray and near-infrared images. Despite the significant advances in AI in dentistry, factors such as limited data availability, imbalance in data classes, and lack of transparency and interpretability affect the performance of proposed methods. Accordingly, it is crucial for the research community to develop appropriate approaches, taking into account the existing challenges and using the findings of previous studies. This review article, by extensively reviewing the existing literature, examines the X-ray and near-infrared imaging systems and examines the challenges facing researchers in the field of dentistry. It also provides a comprehensive assessment of the performance and methods used in public data and suggests future research directions, taking into account ethical considerations.
