چکیده مقاله:

Buckling braced frames (BBFs) are among the most commonly used types of concentric braced frames (CBFs) due to their significant advantages in structural design. The seismic response of BBFs involves bending under strong ground motion, leading to a vertical unbalanced force between tensile and compressive strengths. This imbalance imposes additional loads on the beams, necessitating their design to ensure sufficient strength and prevent joint failure. In this study, finite element analysis was conducted to assess the seismic performance of different design approaches for determining the optimal spacing of fasteners in BBFs and the vertical unbalanced forces based on beam cross-section dimensions. The findings indicate that the equation for vertical unbalanced forces is more conservative compared to the actual loads obtained from numerical simulations based on current standards. Furthermore, the design model featuring an oval span exhibits superior earthquake resistance compared to the linear span, highlighting the need for adjustments and enhancements in existing methods for calculating vertical unbalanced forces.
