چکیده مقاله:

ThermoWood, a registered trademark of the International ThermoWood Association, is a leader in thermally modified wood, known for its eco-friendly and chemical-free enhancements that boost durability and stability. The process follows strict environmental and quality standards, making it ideal for applications like decking, cladding, and furniture. Non-trademarked thermally modified wood undergoes similar treatments, though processes and branding may vary. HJT-Holz Oy is a prominent player in this industry, offering ThermoWood products that highlight precision and sustainability. The company mainly exports to Europe and expanded into the North American market in ۲۰۲۴, reinforcing its innovative reputation. Changing climate conditions pose challenges for architects and builders, requiring buildings to be aesthetically pleasing and durable against unpredictable weather. While most timbers are chemically treated or naturally durable, both raise sustainability concerns regarding chemical use and old-growth forest sourcing. The extensive use of materials like concrete and steel is also under scrutiny as the industry aims to reduce its environmental impact. This underlines the value of wood products in eco-friendly construction, given that the energy required to process wood is significantly lower than other materials, and it offers advantages like biodegradability and carbon sequestration. Thermally modified wood stands out as a sustainable alternative, boasting enhanced durability and stability for modern construction. This research examines the process of creating thermally modified wood and its benefits for contemporary building practices and examples of them in Korea.
