The ability to control the fuel injection system of diesel engines allows for increased efficiency and a higher power-to-weight ratio of the engine. In the common rail fuel injection system, it is possible to use different numbers of cylinders relative to the required power under various conditions and to increase the thermal efficiency of the engine by controlling the fuel injection timing at different engine speeds. In the present study, the effects of changing the fuel injection system from direct injection to the common rail system in a diesel engine and using different spray strategies are investigated using numerical simulation in ANSYS Fluent software. In this simulation, parameters such as combustion chamber temperature and combustion pressure are studied. Given that numerical simulation has significantly lower costs compared to experimental works, this project can provide comprehensive awareness of the effects of changing the fuel injection system in a specific engine. The Engine selected for this study is the MTU-۱۶V۳۹۶ diesel engine.
