Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the field of polymer engineering by enabling more precise predictive modeling, enhanced optimization strategies, and the creation of advanced, high-performance materials. This paper presents an exhaustive review of several AI techniques, including machine learning (ML), deep learning, and other innovative data-driven methodologies, which are being applied to various facets of polymer engineering. Key applications of AI in this domain include optimizing the synthesis of polymer materials, accurately predicting material properties, designing intelligent or 'smart' materials that can adapt to changing environments, and improving the control and efficiency of manufacturing processes. The paper also includes case studies that illustrate the real-world applications of AI in predicting tensile strength, as well as optimizing polymer blends to achieve specific desired properties, such as enhanced strength or durability. Despite the substantial progress that has been made, the widespread adoption of AI in polymer engineering is not without its challenges. Issues related to data availability and quality, the interpretability of AI models, and the integration of AI into traditional workflows that rely on conventional, often manual, techniques, continue to present hurdles. Nevertheless, the integration of AI in polymer engineering offers vast potential for accelerating innovation, improving material performance, increasing efficiency, and addressing long-standing challenges in polymer research and industrial applications. By leveraging the strengths of AI, the field is poised to overcome these barriers and unlock new frontiers in material science.
