چکیده مقاله:

Blood storage is needed to ensure a safe blood supply in blood donation centers. In blood banks, during blood storage, storage condition was altered biochemical and physical properties of RBCs. In normal conditions in the body, these do not occur as temperature, optimum PH, nutrient concentration and wastes removal are maintained. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in whole blood stored properties in blood bags containing CPDA -۱ over a period of ۲۸ days. This study conducted in Blood Bank of Akbar hospital in Mashhad, Iran. A total of ۴۵۰ ml blood was drawn from ۴۰ healthy donors into blood bags containing CPDA –۱ anticoagulant and placed on the blood bank refrigerator maintained at ۲ -۸o centigrade. The samples were screened for HCV, HBsAg, syphilis and HIV, also, the samples on ۱st, ۷th, ۱۴th, ۲۱st, and ۲۸th day were tested for hematological parameters using Yumizen H۵۵۰ (HORIBA) fully automated hematology analyzer. At the end of study, whole blood storage in CPDA -۱ revealed significant decrease in WBC (T = ۵.۰۲, p < ۰.۰۱), platelets count (T=۱۵۱.۱۱, p < ۰.۰۱), HGB (p < ۰.۰۱). Also, MCHC and MCH were demonstrated significant increase during the storage period (T = ۳۵.۰۴, p < ۰.۰۱) and (T = ۳۰.۰۹, p < ۰.۰۱), respectively. Other factors have minor change during the storage period. Platelet count and WBC are significantly decreased when stored in blood bags containing CPDA - ۱ in this study. The our results recommends RBCs transfusion before seventh day in order to avoid the adverse outcome of hematological changes in stored blood. Also, the results suggested that RBCs transfusion after than more ۱۴ days, lead of complications due to significant changes in hematological parameters.
