چکیده مقاله:

This study analyzes the relationship between intellect ('aql) and love ('ishq) in Suhrawardi's thought, with emphasis on his theory of light. The relationship between intellect and love has always been one of the challenging issues in the history of Islamic thought, and Suhrawardi, by presenting an innovative theory, has tried to establish a meaningful connection between the two. This research has been conducted using an analytical-descriptive method with a library research approach. The research findings show that in Suhrawardi's thought, intellect and love are two manifestations of a single light that are deeply interconnected. Intellect, as pure light, has the capability to receive illuminations, while love, as luminous attraction, causes movement toward perfection. This connection can be examined at three levels: the epistemological function of intellect in understanding love, the role of love in the perfection of intellect, and the practical manifestations of this relationship in worship and individual and social life. In explaining this relationship, Suhrawardi employs the concept of "loving intellect" which represents a stage where intellect and love achieve unity. At this stage, intellect connects to the Light of Lights through love and gains the ability to understand illuminative truths. This unity of intellect and love represents the pinnacle of illuminative epistemology. The results reveal that Suhrawardi's theory not only provides a solution to the apparent conflict between intellect and love but also suggests a practical model for linking rationality and spirituality in the contemporary world. This theory can be instrumental in reconstructing the relationship between intellect and love in today's world.
