Intrauterine Pregnancy with Copper Intrauterine Contraceptive Device in Situ: A Case Report

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) provide effective and reversible contraception, but rare pregnancies can lead to complications like miscarriage and preterm labor. Timely removal during the first trimester is advised to reduce risks. This case reports a ۱۷-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding after ۱۶ months of IUD use and a ۲.۵-month missed period. Despite confirming a ۱۳-week gestation via transvaginal ultrasound, she opted to continue the pregnancy without IUD removal. However, she spontaneously expelled both the fetus and IUD after two hours of observation, with minimal bleeding and no complications. This case highlights the risks associated with retained IUDs during pregnancy, emphasizing the importance of post-insertion follow-ups and IUD positioning checks. If pregnancy occurs, early removal is recommended to prevent adverse outcomes.
