What Would be the World like without Davinci? Initial Experience with the Versius Robot at a Tertiary Care Centre in Pakistan

Introduction: To present initial experience with the first ۱۵۰ cases of robotic-assisted surgery by the Department of Urology.Methods: This was retrospective observational study conducted in department of urology at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre Lahore, Pakistan where robotic-assisted procedures were performed between May ۹, ۲۰۲۳, and June ۲۸, ۲۰۲۴. We examined the postoperative and demographic information of the first ۱۵۰ patients who received robotically assisted surgery. Both the Cambridge Medical Robotics (CMR) database and the hospital information database provided prospective data. The hospital database had information on the patient's age, sex, diagnoses, and complications throughout their hospital stay in addition to readmission, morbidity, and mortality. Operative time (min) spent utilising the Versius robotic surgical console were among the data that CMR gathered from internal databases.Results: The average age of patients undergoing robotic surgery was ۴۵.۵۰±۱۶.۷۹ years. The most commonly performed surgeries were simple nephrectomy (۳۶.۷%, ۵۵ patients), followed by radical nephrectomy (۲۴.۰%, ۳۶ patients), and pyeloplasty (۱۴.۷%, ۲۲ patients). Only two patients had blood loss of more than ۵۰۰ml. There were ۱۲ (۸.۰%) postoperative complications, ۳ readmissions (۲.۰%) and one mortality during the study period.Conclusion: Minimally invasive surgery using the Versius robotic system by CMR is effective and safe, offering high precision and fewer complications. Our findings enhance our understanding of robotic-assisted urological interventions, supporting the integration of robotics into clinical practice.
