As connectivity across all domains becomes more widespread, data describing end-userbehavior has increased in both the Internet of Things (IoT) and other smart devices. This makesusers more aware of the protection of their personal data. The number of peer-to-peer (P۲P)transactions in the Internet of Things continues to grow, increasing the risk of security breachesand cyberattacks. Blockchain technology is being explored as a tool for P۲P transactions, butcurrent solutions often focus on providing a secure place for data exchange without consideringchanges in the interaction topology. Proof of Service - IoT platform based on smart contractsbuilt on the Ethereum blockchain. EdgeBoT provides a wide range of communication betweennetwork nodes and external services via the Internet of Things (BoT) at the edge of theconnection, ensuring that private information and end users are kept confidential when InEdgeBoT, edge devices exchange data directly with third parties without the need forintermediaries. This opens the door to a new way of interacting where data creators at the edgeallow different third parties to access their data. Leveraging the immutability of blockchain andthe decentralized nature of smart contracts, data owners can control and understand allchanges that occur to their data. We report preliminary results that demonstrate the potentialof EdgeBoT in IoT. We show that integrating our solutions into existing IoT systems requires asmall amount of data but has a large impact in terms of preserving data ownership andmanaging data exchange.
