Investigation Contributory Factors to Severity of ۴-Lane Two-Way Highway Suburban Accidents Based on Traffic Flow: Case Study ILAM Province

The increasing number of deaths due to road accidents has made traffic engineers and specialized traffic safety companies investigate the factors affecting the occurrence and severity of such incidents. This problem manifests itself more when such accidents occur on high-quality roads with high intensity, and the contributory factors for the severity of such road accidents should be identified. In the classification of the suburban road network, a four-lane ۲-way with barrier highways is considered one of the high-quality roads. Iran is one of the developing countries where road accidents are one of the most important causes of death in this country and Ilam is the westernmost province of this country. In this article, to identify factors affecting the severity of accidents on suburban four-lane ۲-way highways of Ilam province using data related to accidents were extracted from police reports, the volume of traffic in passing vehicles and the average speed of passing vehicles were taken from the website of the Highways and Road Transport Organization. Data accidents include the distance of the accident from the first police station, the weather conditions on the day of the accident, the type of collision, the severity of the accident, and the type of violation and the type of vehicle involved in the accident.
