The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Social Justice: A Look at Cultural Opportunities and Threats

This article reviews the impacts of artificial intelligence on social justice, focusing on cultural opportunities and threats. Social justice, as one of the fundamental principles of sustainable development, faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities in the era of artificial intelligence. On the one hand, AI-based technologies can foster more equitable distribution of resources and improve the quality of life by reducing economic disparities, enhancing access to public services, and enabling data-driven decision-making. On the other hand, threats such as algorithmic bias, the deepening of structural inequalities, concentration of power in the hands of specific actors, and the reduction of cultural diversity pose serious risks to social justice. In this study, the conceptual analysis of social justice in the digital age is accompanied by examples of both positive and negative impacts of AI on various societies. Findings indicate that intelligent policies can harness AI's potential to reduce inequalities and promote social justice, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and employment. For example, the use of AI in healthcare resource allocation in countries like Canada and Sweden has significantly facilitated the reduction of inequalities. In contrast, discriminatory algorithms in developing countries such as India have exacerbated gender and class inequalities. This article offers policy recommendations and presents a framework for the fair and responsible use of AI, emphasizing that intelligent governance, careful monitoring, and algorithmic transparency are essential to prevent discrimination.
