چکیده مقاله:
This study explores the prevalent subject of simulacra and simulation in DonDeLillo's novels White Noise and Underworld. Utilizing Jean Baudrillard's theory, this analysis examines DeLillo's depiction of a society in which manufacturedrepresentations have surpassed actuality, namely within the realm of Americanconsumer culture and Cold War fears. The study utilizes a dual methodology, integrating theme interpretation with a meticulous investigation of narrativeprocesses. Both works explore the theme of individuals struggling with the fears ofliving in a society that is controlled by simulations. White Noise explores theexistential challenge faced by individuals in a consumerist world that is heavilyinfluenced by media and businesses. Underworld provides a comprehensivehistorical perspective, analyzing the influence of the Cold War and its role ingenerating an artificial feeling of terror. The examination then explores the narrativeapproaches used by DeLillo to communicate this subject. White Noise employsdark humor, sarcasm, and changing viewpoints to provide a bewildering andfragmented encounter. Underworld utilizes an expansive, non-linear framework, juxtaposition, and a concentration on everyday life to mirror the shattered essenceof existence in a realm dominated by imitations. This study seeks to provide athorough comprehension of how DeLillo used the notion of simulacra to criticizeAmerican culture by examining both the thematic substance and narrative tactics. Both books function as admonitory narratives, compelling us to scrutinize thepervasive sway of media and consumerism, and to actively pursue authenticity in asociety progressively controlled by simulations.
