Farmers' Water Conservation Behavior

This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting water conservation behavior among farmers, due to the importance of water as a main agricultural input and the destruction of water resources, as well as the occurrence of water shortage crisis in the agricultural sector in recent years. Additionally, considering the pivotal role of farmers in programs and strategies for sustainable water resources management. The statistical population of this study consisted of all farmers in Kermanshah Township. Using Cochran formula sampling and the stratified proportional sampling method, ۱۸۰ persons were selected as the study sample. The data collection tool was a questionnaire. A panel of experts confirmed the content validity of the questionnaire and the construct validity and composite reliability of the research instrument were obtained by estimating the model. Data analysis was done by SPSS and AMOS software. In this research, the theory of planned behavior was used for the research framework. The results of structural equation modeling showed that the variables of self-efficacy, attitude, subjective norm and intention are able to explain ۴۵% of water conservation behavior. Overall, the findings of this research confirmed the validity and effectiveness of the Planned Behavior Theory in explaining and predicting pro-environmental behaviors related to protection of water resources. The findings from this research could offer valuable new perspectives for decision-makers in this area. Previous studies have primarily focused on the incentives and barriers related to water conservation, while neglecting the importance of environmental psychology research.
