Microplastics: A growing threat to agricultural soils

The world is increasingly threatened by microplastics, a problem that, except in scientific circles, seems to be largely overlooked. Microplastics are tiny solid particles of plastic material, defined as particles smaller than ۵ microns. While the mass production of plastic products has brought apparent convenience, the release of a significant portion of these products into the environment has led to numerous environmental risks, ultimately affecting humans directly or indirectly. Studying the impact of microplastics on soil is crucial, as a significant portion of human nutrition comes from terrestrial products, and humans have a direct and daily interaction with the earth. This research does not claim to introduce any new findings in this field. Instead, it aims to gather and summarize existing research conducted in Iran and globally, and by highlighting the dangers of microplastics based on scientific research, to draw more attention to this issue.
