چکیده مقاله:
Yearly, researchers developed novel biologically active metal complexes with the purpose of designing anticancer drugs. The present review aims to provide an overview of the significant discoveries researched between ۲۰۱۸ and ۲۰۲۴ on the efficacy and toxicity of metal complexes as cancer treatment candidates. The wide variety of metal ion functions observed in biological systems has led to discovery and advancement of novel metallodrugs, distinct from platinum-based drugs. Such attempts are driven by the objective of discovering compounds that can exert their therapeutic effects through alternate mechanisms of action. In this review, we examined multi-action copper, zinc, palladium, and platinum complexes that have significant chemotherapeutic potential. These complexes have been specifically developed to overcome the problem of cisplatin resistance in cancer cells. Complexes with potential anti-cancer properties have been observed in a variety of organs and tissues, including the lung, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, stomach, breast, and others. For example, Cu(II) complex ۴ has a higher activity towards the MCF-۷ cell line, while Zn(II) complex ۷ is more active against A۵۴۹ cell line than the others. These compounds exceed cisplatin in terms of selectivity and have shown enormous potential in in vitro studies. This comprehensive review is a collection of the most important methods employed over the past seven years in the development of attractive metal complexes for anticancer applications. It aims to provide valuable assistance to researchers working in this field of study.
