Indigenous and local games festivals in Ardabil province: Analysis of challenges and opportunities for sustainable development

Research has consistently demonstrated that native and local games and sports, deeply rooted in a country's traditions and culture, possess a significant potential to attract tourists. These indigenous events, often overlooked as valuable cultural assets, can serve as powerful catalysts for the development of less developed regions. By preserving and promoting these cultural heritage elements, tourism destinations can not only strengthen their unique identity but also generate economic and social growth within their communities. This research aimed to comprehensively investigate the challenges and opportunities presented by indigenous and local games festivals in Ardabil Province. As an applied research study conducted in a review format, this investigation relied on a thorough examination of existing literature, including scientific articles, theses, and online resources. To gather diverse perspectives on the subject, the study also incorporated an analysis of interviews and online discussions regarding these events. By meticulously analyzing the challenges and opportunities associated with these events, the study aims to contribute to their effective management and promotion. Key challenges identified include limited financial support, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient community involvement. However, these festivals also present significant opportunities for cultural preservation, tourism development, and economic growth. Indigenous and local games festivals in Ardabil Province offer substantial potential for sustainable development. Despite challenges, these events can promote cultural preservation, attract tourists, and stimulate economic growth. By addressing challenges and leveraging opportunities, Ardabil can become a model for sustainable development through cultural heritage.
