چکیده مقاله:

Applied linguistics is an interdisciplinary field which identifies, investigates, and offers solutions to language-related real-life problems. Some of the academic fields related to applied linguistics are education, psychology, communication research, information science, natural language processing, anthropology, and sociology. Applied linguistics is a practical use of language. Linguistic studies, like many other sciences, are divided into two theoretical and applied branches. Applied Linguistics is an interdisciplinary field that includes parts of linguistic studies that focus on language use. Applied linguistics, contrary to theoretical linguistics that examines language in an abstract form (such as Chomsky's generative grammar (formalist), which is one of the three dominant approaches in the field of theoretical linguistics today); Analyzes real-life language-related problems and their solutions, with an emphasis on language users and the ways in which they use language. Some scientific fields related to applied linguistics are: psychology, anthropology, sociology, computer and education. At first, it was thought that applied linguistics should only base its studies on linguistics, and some even considered it as an application of linguistics. In the ۱۹۶۰s, the field of applied linguistic studies expanded to include language assessment, language policy, and second language learning. In the early ۱۹۷۰s, applied linguistics became a foundational problem area. But it was in the ۱۹۹۰s that applied linguistics expanded significantly and included critical studies and multilingualism. Thus, research in applied linguistics changed from theoretical studies to investigating real problems in which language was the main issue. Interestingly, even among linguists who work in the field of applied linguistics, there is a difference of opinion about the scope and limitations of this field. In this article, an overview of the nature of applied linguistics and a comparative review of the introduction and discussion of its research subsections are discussed.
