چکیده مقاله:
For a span of four years, the global populace has grappled with the ramifications of the coronavirus disease (COVID-۱۹), encompassing its profound impact on health, societal dynamics, and the economy. Among its recognized consequences, the emergence of neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression has been documented. However, notable reports have surfaced indicating manic episodes associated with COVID-۱۹. Mania constitutes an integral facet of the debilitating condition known as bipolar disorder (BD). Given its severe implications, it is imperative to ascertain whether SARS-CoV-۲ infection serves as a causative factor for this consequential mental disorder. This Comprehensive review endeavors to explore the parallels between disorders induced by SARS-CoV-۲ and those exhibited by individuals with BD. Furthermore, the inquiry is extended to investigate whether SARS-CoV-۲ infection may pose a risk for the onset of this affective disorder. Our analysis reveals that COVID-۱۹-related disorders manifesting the closest resemblance to those observed in BD encompass cytokine irregularities, disturbances in tryptophan metabolism, sleep disorders, and structural alterations in the central nervous system (CNS). These alterations, particularly accentuated in severe infections, have the potential to act as precipitating factors for the development of BD in individuals with specific vulnerabilities, such as those with a familial predisposition. Additionally, they may incite acute episodes in individuals with pre-existing BD.
