چکیده مقاله:
In recent years, biopolymers derived from renewable sources such as plants, algae, seashell waste, and seaweed have gained considerable attention as industries aim to reduce environmental pollution while maintaining socioeconomic progress. These biopolymers are often seen as a viable alternative to traditional materials because of their light weight, high strength, stiffness, biostability, and non-toxic nature. As a result, various sectors, including packaging, agriculture, automotive, healthcare, and energy harvesting, are increasingly adopting biopolymers. Electrochemical energy storage devices like batteries and supercapacitors can be developed using tailored biopolymers and their composites. Although the standalone applications of biopolymers may be limited, combining them with other materials to form composites significantly enhances their physical properties and boosts the electrochemical performance of active biological molecules. This review highlights the latest advancements in utilizing biopolymers and their composites for energy storage devices, particularly batteries and supercapacitors, while also exploring future possibilities in this area.
