چکیده مقاله:

Genetic programming (GP) is a subfield of evolutionary computing that applies the principles of natural selection and genetics to evolve computer programs. It is a machine learning technique that uses a population of candidate programs (solution trees) to solve complex problems by iteratively evolving and refining the programs over generations. This article reviews emerging methods of GP such as linear GP, gene expression programming, multigene GP, and multi-stage GP. In addition, we demonstrate various applications of GP variants in different fields of civil engineering. The reviewed case studies showed that GP has received great attention among civil engineers for solving practical problems as it is a grey-box model with more explainable solutions compared to the other black box techniques.
