چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease among men. Studies shows that the incidence of the disease is strongly co-related with age and severity of symptoms, which means, as much as the age rises the symptoms lower urinary tract symptoms: (LUTS) also become much severe. Methods: ۵۰ patients diagnosed with BPH patients were enrolled in this study. All those patients were diagnosed for the first time with BPH disease and did not take any medical treatments before. Ultrasound study was done to assess post void residual volume (PVR), prostate volume (PV) and bladder wall thickness (BWT). Along with assessing LUTS by using specific question form called International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). Also PSA serology test was performed for the patients. After ۳ months of treatment PVR, BWT and IPSS were re-assessed back again to see if there is any correlation between BWT comparing to both PVR and IPSSResults: ۵۰ patients were enrolled in the study, all patients were evaluated and diagnosed with BPH. Before the treatment, pearson correlation coefficient of BWT comparing to PVR was (r)=۰.۷۷, and after treatment for ۳ months this correlation was decreased to (r)=۰.۵۸. Also the relation of BWT comparing to LUTS was (r)=۰.۷۵ before the treatment which also decrease after ۳ months of medical treatment (r)=۰.۵۰Conclusion: BWT has strong relation with IPSS and PVR in BPH patient before the treatment according to pearson correlation coefficient. This relation decreased after ۳ months of medical treatment but it was still reliable and strong enough. We also noticed that patients with severe BWT changes did not responded well enough to medical treatment comparing to patients with mild BWT changes and they were still complaining of LUTS (moderate to severe IPSS).
