چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Hernia management is complicated, and many factors interfere with its repair. Mesh implantation and primary suturing are common approaches for hernia repair. Mesh implementation has revealed superiorities compared with primary sutures in terms of recurrence and wound-related complications over a long duration. Prophylactic mesh is located, whether as an onlay or sublay position, according to the individual’s anatomical structure and the involved tissues. This study aimed to evaluate the mesh properties as a prophylactic approach for hernia development for kidney transplantation. Methods: A total of ۳۰ patients admitted to the hospital and candidates for kidney transplantation between ۲۰۱۷-۲۰۱۸ were included in the study. The mesh group consisted of patients fitting in the criteria for mesh implantation, and the control group involved patients heterogenetic with the control group in age, gender, and anthropometric findings. All patients’ information, including demographic and anthropometric, was imported into a checklist. Results: Eight patients (۵۳.۳%) of the mesh group and ۱۱ patients (۷۳.۳%) of the control group were male (P-value =۰.۲۵۶). The average age was ۴۵.۲۷±۷.۸۷ years in the mesh embedding group and ۴۳.۲۷±۷.۹۸ years (P-value =۰.۴۹۶) in the control group. Although the creatinine level in both groups decreased, there was no significant difference between the two groups. There was pain at the operation site in three patients (۲۰%) of the mesh group and one patient (۶.۷%) in the control group (P-value=۰.۲۸۳). Inflammation in the operation site was also reported in both groups. However, bleeding, inflammation, and mortality rates were not significantly different between groupsConclusion: No significant difference was found between the two groups in complications at the surgical site, including pain and inflammation.
