A Novel heterogeneous system catalyzed biginelli reactionone-pot synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones/thiones usingSiO۲- KAl(SO۴)۲.۱۲H۲O under solvent-free conditions

A simple and efficient synthesis of ۳,۴-dihydropyrimidin-۲(۱H)-ones/thiones derivatives isdescribed. ۳,۴-dihydropyrimidinones were synthesized in moderate to high yields in one potthree component reaction from the corresponding aldehydes, ketones or ۱,۳-dicarbonylcompounds and urea, in the presence of catalytic amount of KAl(SO۴)۲.۱۲H۲O (Alum)supported on silica gel (Alum-SiO۲) as a non-toxic, reusable, inexpensive and easily availablereagent, under solvent-free conditions at ۸۰°C. compared to the classical Biginelli reaction, thismethod consistently has the advantage of high yields, short reaction time, easy separation.
