Exploring the Role of Green Supply Chain Management in Reducing Environmental Impacts in the Petrochemical Industry

Petrochemical industries are among the most influential sectors within the country. These usually pose large influence on economic growth and currency generation. However, this is among the major contributor to environmental degradations through the emission of greenhouse gases, water, and solid wastes generation. Pressures by stakeholders, regulators, and international environmental agreements have been forcing petrochemical companies to review appraisals of their impacts upon the environment. Addressing these challenges has thus rendered the management of green supply chains not an option but an indispensable strategy. GSCM refers tothe inclusion of environmentally relevant criteria in all activities from raw material procurement to the end of product delivery and management of wastes. In this regard, the study was conducted to study and analyze the effect of a green supply chain in minimizing environmental impacts that thrive within the petrochemical industry. From the literature review in this area, the reduction of environmental impacts was realized upon the implementation of green supply chain practices within the petrochemical industry.
