چکیده مقاله:

This study explores the impact of gamification on enhancing reading comprehension and student engagement among EFL learners within the Big Blue Button platform. The participants included two groups of students aged ۹ to ۱۳, who participated in twelve one-hour online sessions. The sessions utilized resources such as the Magic Phonics book, Caramel Tree Readers storybooks, and Look & Say books, incorporating gamified tasks like matching words to pictures, memory games, letter arrangement, and interactive songs. These activities aimed to make learning English engaging while helping students master the ۳۶ English sounds and develop reading fluency. Data was gathered through pre- and post-session quizzes, and questionnaire. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test confirmed that the data followed a normal distribution, allowing for the use of parametric statistical methods. The results showed that gamification significantly improved reading comprehension and engagement among EFL learners compared to traditional methods. In the experimental group, a significant improvement in reading comprehension was observed, while the control group showed no significant change. Additionally, engagement scores were higher in the experimental group, indicating that gamification enhances student engagement. This research underscores the potential of gamified strategies in fostering reading comprehension and engagement in online EFL learning environments.
